The story behind Romageco (Kenya) Ltd and Robs Magic Suspension Systems started in Kenya in 1973, when the company’s owner, Rob Collinge was competing in the East African Rally Championship and the Rhino Charge, driving a variety of cars culminating in winning the classic East African Safari rally in 2003/2005.

By modifying both cars’ shock absorbers, he was able to achieve greater speeds than his competitors over rough surfaces, resulting in him winning the title numerously. In 1978, Rob Collinge again won the Kenya National Rally Championship in an Alfa Romeo equipped with double front shock absorbers and an ingenious cooling system for the rear shock absorbers which he engineered to cope with high speed driving on rough, rutted surfaces by cooling the shock absorber fluid through the fuel tank.

These successes earned Rob a reputation as a ‘Suspension guru’ leading to the commencement of shock absorber development work for clients ranging from motor companies and rally teams to tour operators. Romageco Kenya Ltd was formed in 1988 and “Rob’s Magic” the brand followed.

Romageco (Kenya) Limited has progressively expanded the automotive suspension and 4×4 market through conquest sales, aggressive marketing to reach its present size and currently employs approximately 120 staff. As original equipment (OE) suppliers to the assembly plants in Kenya, for Isuzu and Nissan our Rob’s Magic heavy duty shock absorbers are fitted to buses and trucks carrying OE warranties and quality standards.

These shock absorbers are designed specifically for Africa’s tough terrain, and supported by very solid warranties and business ethics. Our growing blue-chip client portfolio includes Specialised FibreGlass Ltd, Southern Cross Safaris, CFAO Group, Oserian, United Nations, AMREF, World Vision, UNHCR, WFP, Red Cross, Oxfam, Save the Children, DFID, British Army, Toyota Tsusho to name but a few plus many foreign embassies. We have a distributor network throughout Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Burundi, Djibouti, Rwanda, Sudan, Zambia, Malawi all comprising of over 120 dealers. We also export worldwide through major procurement companies such as Bukkehave, Kjaer Group, LTA and Carter Centre.
